Problem
Transformative Culture Learning Journal (TCLJ):
Record an intercultural incident, analyse the incident, interview someone about the cultural aspect of the incident, and then rewrite the journal from a new perspective.
I. Step I: The first journal entry should describe an incident that occurred between the student and someone relating to a cultural difference.
II. Step II: In the second journal entry, analyse what happened, speculating the reasons why the individuals did what they did or said what they said.
III. Step III: Locate a cultural mentor and discuss the incident to develop a more informed perspective. The third entry should report on the results of that discussion.
IV. Step IV: In the fourth and final step, revisit the first 3 steps and develop a tentative perspective on the incident that includes the perspective of the host culture person. In this step, develop a more culturally nuanced perspective on the intercultural incident. Look at the entire situation through the lens of the other person. To this end, put yourself in the shoes of the other person and look at the situation from their perspective.
