Answer ONE of the following questions , writing roughly 3 1/2-5 pages for your answer. Your submissions should be 12pt font double spaced. (if you are using any other outside sources, make sure that they are academic/peer-reviewed ones).

Use your own words, and make sure to cite your sources. In text citation is to be MLA style, i.e. (Boatwright 2011, 52).

Your submission must use at least two (2) secondary sources (i.e. articles/textbooks of an academic caliber) and one (1) primary source (i.e. a source written at the time such as Livy, Caesar, Polybius, etc.).

Briefly discuss the causes and course of the First Punic War. What advantages did both sides have at the beginning of the war? How did this change by the end of the war? What long term effects did the conclusion of the war have on the Roman Republic?

Discuss the involvement of Hannibal in the events leading up to and including the Second Punic War (218-202 BC). What was his strategy in the war? What were his successes? Why did he ultimately fail to achieve complete victory over the Romans?

Compare and contrast the conquest of Spain with the conquest of Greece in the 2nd century BC. Did the Senate of Rome initially have any intentions of conquering either area? How was each area run after the conquest, and did Rome necessarily have a "uniform" way of ruling its provinces?
