Assignment:

In considering the balance between freedom and security, it becomes very clear that restricting individual freedoms can have negative reactions and opinions from those who may disagree with their government's policies. As Gregory V. Chapman points out, policymakers often prioritize security over freedom, particularly after significant events such as national tragedies.

However, changes in policies can sometimes lead to disproportionately affecting citizens, potentially benefiting or hindering people more than others, creating an imbalance within the social structure that may lead to inequalities. Finding a balance between individual freedoms and safety is easy to advocate for because it sounds good, but it's especially important to truly pay attention to what is important to elected representatives, or what decisions some have made in the past so that the people within the government making decisions have the best intentions for its people. Historical examples show that while some restrictions can be necessary for safety, they should be carefully considered to ensure they do not take away fundamental human rights more than necessary.
