Managing Complex Adaptive Healthcare Organisations
Task Description
ASSESSMENT 1 - PRESENTATION
Healthcare organisations and systems often need to develop new health service initiatives to respond to evolving organisational or patient care needs. Such new initiatives operate within complex adaptive systems, which can have interconnecting individual agents, rules and governance of operations. Get in touch with us for low-cost assignment help!
With relevant references to KPMG's 2024 report, Economic Impact of the Broader Adoption of Virtual Hospitals in Australia (see 'Assessments Tools' below), and other appropriate sources, you are required to prepare a PowerPoint presentation of an evidence-based proposal for the introduction of a virtual hospital facility as part of the operations of an existing Australian public or private hospital (excluding any of the organisations mentioned on p. 19 of the KPMG report). The presentation should be directed to your chosen hospital's organisational leadership team. It should acknowledge the possible challenges associated with the virtual hospital initiative and show your understanding of the complexity associated with the initiative.
The presentation of 11-12 minutes should be submitted as a slide-by-slide recording with embedded voice in a PowerPoint file, and should critically address the following:
Introduction: Describe the topic and purpose of the presentation. Specify your chosen hospital and the nature of that organisation's current operations. Outline the key arguments and the presentation structure. (1 minute, 2 slides, 3 marks)
Nature and scope of the Initiative: Explain the nature and scope of the virtual hospital initiative, and its alignment to the chosen hospital's existing operations (2 minute, 2 slides, 3 marks).
Complexity of the initiative: Discuss the complexity of the proposed virtual hospital initiative. Specifically:
Explain the individual groups or types of agents which will be responsible for or influence the ongoing administration and operation of the initiative, and analyse the potential and likely interconnections between at least three of these groups or types of agents that would be most critical to the initiative (2 minutes, 3 slides, 5 marks).
Discuss the anticipated and expected dynamic and changing nature of the interconnections between the agents (2 minutes, 3 slides, 4 marks).
Outline the organisational, team and individual actions that will need to be planned or implemented to suitably promote the on-going future resilience and reliability of the initiative (2 minute, 3 slides, 3 marks).
Discuss the protocols, procedures, rules and governance by which the individual agents will need to interact or are likely to interact (2 minutes, 3 slides, 3 marks).
Conclusion: Re-state the position of your argument and summarise the discussion. Because virtual hospitals are not yet broadly adopted in Australia, draw out at least two key planning positions or propositions that the leadership team of the chosen hospital will need to assume or accept in order to successfully adopt the virtual hospital initiative. (1 minute, 2 slides, 3 marks).
Application of Evidence (3 marks). Quality of presentation (3 marks).
