Explain the different ways in which "class" is understood. Discuss the American perceptions on class and the reality of class. (Read the article by Norton and Ariely in module 2 and view the video under it). Compare the income definition of class to the definition provided by the author of the book Working Class Majority. How are the two models of class similar and how are they different? Which model do you think more accurately captures the reality of the class structure in the United States?

Is one model more useful than the other in providing useful information to make changes in our distribution of wealth and income? Or, do the two models complement one another to maych a wider perspective on the class structure? What is your view of all of this?
