Question: Admiral Yamamoto was an experienced, brilliant naval commander. He knew that, if the American carriers were waiting for the Japanese fleet near Midway Island on June 4th, 1942, Admiral Nagumo would face a crisis scenario, and the Japanese might suffer devastating losses. Consequently, Admiral Yamamoto designed his elaborate plan with multiple strategies to ensure that either (1) the US carriers would not be in the vicinity of Midway when the Japanese fleet arrived on June 4th, or (2) Yamamoto and Nagumo would have plenty of notice (time to adapt, delay, or cancel their attack) if the American carriers were in the vicinity of Midway on June 4th, 1942.
In a concise essay, please itemize each measure in Yamamoto's plan that was designed to help ensure that the crisis scenario described above would NOT occur. In addition, please describe one additional measure -- one that was not included in Yamamoto's plan - that could have been included in Yamamoto's elaborate plan that would have reduced the chances that Admiral Nagumo would confront the crisis scenario that ultimately led to the destruction of Nagumo's four carriers. Since this written essay is addressing preparedness/planning (not tactics in the crisis situation), the additional measure that you discuss should address Yamamoto's original plan, not ad hoc choices that Nagumo might have made differently during the battle.
