GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP

1) The idea of world citizenship is a highly contested notion. Communitarians for example argue that global citizenship is neither desirable nor realistic.

Globalists argue that it is. Identify and discuss several of the most compelling arguments for OR against global citizenship, using contemporary examples.

2) The idea of a global citizenship has a long history in Western philosophy. Up until World War 1, the notion was conceived of mostly in metaphorical, moral or aspirational terms.

Today though, many argue that the time for some sort of global civic order has arrived, one that includes practical forms of global citizenship (not necessarily one world government). Explain what this means: and make the case for or against this view, keeping in mind the historical context.
