Assignment Part A: Report Preparation Tasks

Aims:

To manage in the real world managers need to know how to find, research and write about academic theory and concepts using management texts, academic journal articles, and reputable government and industry sources. The following Report Preparation Tasks will help you learn these skills and assist you to prepare for the final Individual Business Report (Assignment 1 Part B). Specifically you will learn to:

• Plan your Individual Business Report (Assignment 1 Part B) by way of your proposed Table of Contents (TOC);
• Use academic ideas, theory and concepts(in other words theory and concepts from textbooks and peer reviewed academic journal articles )to help understand, analyse and critically examine real world organisations;
• Find peer reviewed academic journal articles relevant to understanding management;
• Develop your academic and business writing skills;
• Provide Deakin Harvard style in-text citations and a reference list;
• Ensure your answers meet the requirements shown in the assignment marking rubric.

Before you start, choose eitherThe Royal Children's Hospital MelbourneOR Scentre Group (see websites on page 1).

Complete the following Assignment 1 Part A Report Preparation Tasks

Task 1:

Using the systems view of an organization, explain the process by which your chosen organization takes inputs from the external environment, transforms them, and returns them as outputs to the external environment in 2018/2019. Begin your research by reading Williams, McWilliams & Lawrence 2017, pp.35-36 (your prescribed textbook).Remember to cite the text, at least one peer reviewed academic journal, and one reputable source on your chosen organisation(500 words).

This task requires:
• 500 words (+/- 10%) including all quotations and citations
• a citation from the textbook
• a citation from a suitable peer reviewed management academic journal article
• a citation from a reputable source about your chosen organization (use the company website, you may use non-academic sources such as magazines, newspapers too)
• a direct quotation using Deakin Harvard referencing style
• an indirect (paraphrased) quotation using Deakin Harvard referencing style

The aim of this task is for you to practice research and writing in the Management discipline.

Task 2:
Provide a draft Table of Contents (TOC) with the sections and sub-section headings you plan to use in your Assignment 1 Part B Individual Business Report.Note: this task requires only the TOC you are planning to use for Assignment 1 Part B. You are NOT required to provide a TOC for Assignment 1 Part A (in other words this submission).

Task 3:
Provide a draft Deakin Harvard reference list you plan to use in your Assignment 1 Part B Individual Business Report.
This task requires the following minimum references:
• the MMM132 textbook
• four or more peer reviewed academic journal articles (at least oneacademic journal article for each task 1-4) in the forthcoming Assignment 1 Part B Individual Business Report.
• at least one reputable (non-academic) source of information relevant to your chosen organisation.

Assignment 1 Part B: Individual Business Report

This Individual Business Report is Assignment 1 Part B. Your learning and marking feedback from Assignment 1 Part A (Report Preparation Tasks) are to be used to complete your Individual Business Report.

You are reminded of the scenario (background information) that applies to Assignment 1 Part B(Note: this is the same scenario that applied to Assignment 1 Part A):

Assumeyou have applied for a graduateposition at EITHER The Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne. As part of the selection process the organisation requires you to use management ideas (theory and concepts) to examine and analyse specific aspects of their organisation. This task allows you to demonstrate your academic knowledge about management as well as your academic integrity, research, writing, and analytical skills. Do NOT contact your chosen organisation directly.

You must use DeakinReport Format. You must use also Deakin Harvard Referencing

You must use only reputable academic, media, government, and business sources to inform your report. Do NOT contact the organisation directly. Do NOT use Wikipedia.

Write a business report that addresses the following four tasksbelow in relation to your chosen organisation (either The Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne OR Scentre Group). This report must include:
• Assignment Title page;
• Executive Summary;
• Table of Contents;
• Introduction;
• Critical analytical section (responses to tasks 1-4, the body of the report. Your responses to the four tasks below will make up the sections in the body of the report.)
• Conclusion;
• Deakin Harvard style Reference List (Appendices are not required).

Complete the following Assignment 1 Part B Individual Business Report Tasks:

Task 1: Define and discuss concepts about the general external environmentof an organisation andanalyse and evaluate the impact of technology fromthe general environment on your chosen organisation in 2018/19. Begin your research by reading pp. 41-44 of the prescribed textbook. Remember to cite the text, at least one peer reviewed academic journal, and one reputable source relevant to your chosen organisation. (500 words).

Task 2: Define and discuss concepts about the specific external environmentof an organisation andanalyse and evaluate the impact of advocacy groups fromthe specific environment onyour chosen organisation in 2018/19. Begin your research by reading pp. 44-48 of the prescribed textbook. Remember to cite the text, at least one peer reviewed academic journal, and one reputable source relevant to your chosen organisation. (500 words).

Task 3: Define and discuss concepts about the ethics and Social Responsibility (SR)of an organisation andanalyse and evaluate the ethics and SR of your chosen organisation in 2018/19. Begin this by reading pp. 57-74 of the prescribed textbook. Remember to cite the text, at least one peer reviewed academic journal, and one reputable source relevant to your chosen organisation. (500 words).

Task 4: Identify the manager you aspire to be in your chosen organization (RCH or Scentre Group). Describe the kind (level) of that manager, and the responsibilities, and four skills you will need to exhibit to get that managerial job. Thendiscusshow you can provide evidence of these skills. Begin by reading pp. 6-9 and 12-14 of the prescribed textbook. Remember to cite the text, at least one peer reviewed academic journal, and one reputable source relevant to your chosen organisation. (500 words).
