Group-focused activities and exercises can strengthen the experience for group members in many ways. Activities can be creative and may include artwork (drawing/painting, collagemaking, etc.), writing exercises, mindfulness, music, movement, dance, exercise, role-playing, or storytelling (Brown, 2013). These kinds of activities can:
- Inspire and challenge group members.
- Give focus to feelings of chaos or anxiety group members may be experiencing.
- Provide a vehicle for the expression of thoughts, emotions, and ideas.
- Clarify perceptions.
- Illuminate the obvious.
- Provide solace, centering, and grounding.
- Enable members to simplify and process complicated or conflicting feelings or values.
- Offer new ways to perceive and relate to people and issues.
- Engender balance and reconnections
