Alejandra is a Hispanic female who works at A+ Accounting firm as an accountant. When she applied for the job, she lied and said that she graduated from the university of Texas with a 4 year accounting degree when she really only received a 2 year associates degree in psychology from Austin community college. The person interviewing her did not check her credentials and she was hired and got good performance reviews for the first two years. Two years after she starts working there she gets a new supervisor named Phil. One day she overhears him telling another coworkers that he plans on firing Alejandra because "you know how those Hispanics are". They have a million kids and are lazy. It's better to fire her now and hire a non Hispanic." The next day Phil is going through her personnel file and learns that the interviewer never verified her degree. He calls the college and finds out she only had a 2 year degree. Then he calls her into his office and goes her. She sues him alleging that he has violated title VII by discrimination against her national origin and race. Phil argues that he fired her because she did not have a degree and was not qualified to work there? What would a court decide?
