Case Study
You were recently hired to lead the HR Department at a new non-profit organization. This organization will provide educational services to pre-school students to help prepare them to enter kindergarten. Their target market is low-income families who are not able to afford paid pre-school services. To begin with, they will only be offering services in a couple of communities by partnering with community centers. They hope to grow to service the entire state of Arizona in the future.
The organization currently employs 4 individuals but has just been awarded a large grant that will allow them to hire 25 additional employees. Once hired, the organization will set up a warehouse to house educational supplies. These supplies will be distributed to community centers as needed.
One of your first tasks is to set up the HR Department including establishing a performance appraisal system and training all staff on workplace health and safety issues.

Self-evaluation, peer review, supervisor assesment subordinate assesment. Why did you select this method? Identify three performance traits you think are most critical to assess in a performance evaluation. Why?
2. Difficult Conversations - Identify and explain two strategies you will share with managers who need to have a difficult performance conversation with an employee. Why did you select those strategies and how will they help this organization?
3. Safety and Health - Summarize the purpose of OSHA. Identify three safety risks this organization may face and how you can mitigate these risks.
4. Americans With Disabilities Act - Identify and explain the key aspects of this legislation, what you would include in training to all employees, and why this training is important.
5. Worker's Compensation - How will you explain the Worker's Compensation benefit to new employees? Why is this benefit important to both the employees and the organization?
