Assignment Brief
You have recently been promoted and as a recent trainee site manager your line manager has asked you to write a training manual for new trainee site managers. The manual will have three chapters as outlined below.
Introduction - outline the scope and content of the manual
Chapter 1: Terminology, design and sustainability. In this chapter you describe the differences between residential, commercial and industrial buildings. You select and illustrate two buildings. Then using your selected examples evaluate how the functional characteristics and design selection criteria impacted on the eventual design of your selected buildings. In doing so consider how sustainability could have been promoted or promoted further in buildings you have chosen. (P1, P2, P3)
Chapter 2: Substructures and superstructures, and civil engineering. In this chapter write a design report that identifies, compares and evaluates the superstructure, substructure and civil engineering structures necessary for the construction and support of a large commercial building. In drafting report you should consider the pre-design studies carried out and the types of information collected for a large commercial building project, the functional characteristics and design criteria for primary & secondary elements of a building substructure & superstructure and the substructure works carried out by civil engineers.
