This assignment calls on you to closely consider two different responses to a current issue in your community. First, you will find two responses that represent two different genres. Next, you will analyze the ways in which "the texts function as a social response to the rhetorical situations" and consider what a comparison of the two texts teaches you about genre.

Think about the following: How does the author (or how do the authors, if there are multiple authors) of each text consider purpose and audience? How are rhetorical appeals (ethos, logos, pathos) used to move or persuade the intended audience of each text? What mode and what form of media was used for each text, and why?
