Analysis of the books you compare to their different historical and geographic contexts.

Choose two different books, either John Chasteen's Heroes on Horseback, Mariano Azuela's The Underdogs, or Manuel Puig's Kiss of the Spider Woman, and compare how the two authors depict women and femininity. It might be most effective to focus in on a comparison of two characters from two different books. What is the proper role for women in revolutionary warfare? How do these depictions reflect the historical context, values, and locations in which the authors lived and wrote about? Reflect on how warfare sometimes scrambles or reinforces traditional gender roles.
