After reading Chapter 8 and the lecture video on sexual assault, I found it really interesting how there was a shift between rape laws, which are known as common law rape and modern law rape. The thing that shocked me the most was how during the common law rape era, a women had to be sexually assaulted by a man who was not her husband. I am happy to see that with modern rape laws that requirement has been abolished because a women who is married can most definitely be assaulted by her husband. When looking at the differences between the common and modern rape laws, there has been a lot of changes that have made a difference for the people who are sexually assaulted. I think that rape or any type of sexual assault is something that no one should ever have to go through, it is important to see how the modern laws have made these changes for the victims of assault.
