In this module, you have learned about the differences between lay testimony and expert witnesses. What is not addressed in your text is the fact that expert witness testimony can cost thousands of dollars - a cost that is borne by the defendant and/or his family. When defendants can't bear this cost, they are unable to utilize such testimony in their defense.
