81 male and 64 female patients who suffered from chronic migraines were given an experimental medication for a month to see whether it alleviated their symptoms. Of those patients, 53 men and 52 women reported that the medication had alleviated their migraine symptoms. Does this suggest that the difference in population proportions for men and women who reported the medication alleviated their migraine symptoms is less than 0%? Use a significance level of 0.05.

When the question provides a list of answers, please enter the number corresponding to the correct answer in the blank space.

A. What is the relevant variable?

  1. The difference in proportion of men and women who reported the medication alleviated their migraine symptoms.
  2. The number of migraines male and female patients had during the month.
  3. The dosage of medication taken by male and by female patients.
  4. The difference in population proportions of men and women who reported the medication alleviated their migraine symptoms.

B. What is the parameter of interest?

  1. The difference in population proportions of men and women who reported the medication alleviated their migraine symptoms.
  2. The dosage of medication taken by male and by female patients.
  3. The difference in proportion of men and women who reported the medication alleviated their migraine symptoms.
  4. The number of migraines male and female patients had during the month.

C. What are the appropriate hypotheses?

  1. Ho: p1-p2 = 0 and Ha: p1-p2 < 0
  2. Ho: p1-p2 < 0 and Ha: p1-p2 = 0
  3. Ho: p1-p2 = 0 and Ha: p1-p2 > 0
  4. Ho: p1-p2 = 0 and Ha: p1-p2 ≠ 0
  5. Ho: p1-p2 < 0 and Ha: p1-p2 ≠ 0
  6. Ho: p1-p2 ≠0 and Ha: p1-p2 = 0

D. Report the value of the test statistic. Round your answer to four decimal  places as needed.

E. Find the p-value. Round your answer to four decimal places as needed. Be sure to enter it exactly like the output from your stat calculator.

(For D and E part, you can just tell me what should I do in statcrunch, like go to t-test two samples something like that)

F. Interpret the p-value.

  1. The p-value is the probability of obtaining independent samples with a difference of proportions of -15.8% or lower assuming the null hypothesis was true.
  2. The p-value is the probability of obtaining independent samples with a difference of proportions of -15.8% or lower assuming the alternative hypothesis was true.
  3. The p-value is the probability of obtaining independent samples with a difference of proportions of 0% or lower assuming the null hypothesis was true.
  4. The p-value is the probability of obtaining independent samples with a difference of proportions of 0% or lower assuming the alternative hypothesis was true.

G. Interpret the results of the significance test.

  1. Reject the null hypothesis. Since the p-value is less than the significance level there is enough evidence to conclude that the difference in population proportions of men and women who reported the medication alleviated their migraine symptoms is less than 0%.
  2. Fail to reject the null hypothesis. Since the p-value is less than the significance level there is not enough evidence to conclude that the difference in population proportions of men and women who reported the medication alleviated their migraine symptoms is less than 0%.
  3. Reject the null hypothesis. Since the p-value is greater than the significance level there is not enough evidence to conclude that the difference in population proportions of men and women who reported the medication alleviated their migraine symptoms is less than 0%.
  4. Fail to reject the null hypothesis. Since the p-value is greater than the significance level there is not enough evidence to conclude that the difference in population proportions of men and women who reported the medication alleviated their migraine symptoms is less than 0%.
  5. Fail to reject the null hypothesis. Since the p-value is greater than the significance level there is enough evidence to conclude that the difference in population proportions of men and women who reported the medication alleviated their migraine symptoms is greater than 0%.
