Case Study: A Question of Ethics: Irate Actor Takes to the Air Alec Baldwin is an Academy Award-nominated actor, heralded for his acting skills and comedic talent. But the actor's real-life performance as a put-upon American Airlines passenger in 2011 left most observers scratching their heads. The incident started when Baldwin refused to stop playing the popular phone game, "Words With Friends," while the plane waited to taxi to the runway. According to airline officials, he was rude and foul-mouthed, and so he was booted from the flight.

Incensed, Baldwin immediately tweeted, "Flight attendant on American reamed me out 4 playing WORDS W FRIENDS while we sat at the gate, not moving. #nowonderamericanairisbankrupt" The actor's tweet reached five million people. The next morning, American fought back with a statement on its Facebook page defending its actions and explaining its policies. The airline also related its version of Baldwin's behavior. The post reached more than 75,000 people, was rebroadcast around the country and put Baldwin on the defensive. All in all, it was not one of his better performances
