Looking at this development more in-depth beyond a mere screen shot a classmate sent me over break, not only are organizations like Disney capping tuition assistance at $5,250 per academic year but they are also cutting Master's degree assistance entirely for those who are not "grandfathered" in. Having done some more research, this is only somewhat a result of Cares Act as caps were already establish by the IRS before 2020. Instead, what is at the heart of the issue is an ed-tech sector downturn. I think the classmates that told me what they were experiencing were looking for a scapegoat, so to speak, and made it political. From my understanding, they received notification that they would no longer receive full tuition coverage during finals week right before we went on break. Ouch. Nevertheless, effective November 27, 2024, Disney employees can no longer utilize Guild to help with any graduate tuition assistance whatsoever and for the upcoming semester, my classmates will now be "on the hook" for a large portion of the tuition. I'm curious if other companies that utilize Guild such as Walmart, Fed Ex, and Tesla will follow suit?
