UK COMPANY LAW ESSAY QUESTION
'While the corporation is a hugely important and successful engine of wealth creation, it can also be an amoral behemoth that (i) fouls the environment, (ii) worsens political and economic inequalities, and (iii) takes advantage of horrible injustices for its own financial gain'. Discuss with reference to English Company Law.
1.The question is quite wide, so there is more than one possible answer/approach, but the key is to make sure that you are answering the question set AND developing an argument in response to the question. It is also perfectly fine to focus on the environment, or political and economic equalities, or horrible injustices in more detail, as long as you explain that you are doing this in your introduction. (although often these will overlap in any case!)
2. A good introduction will cover at least the following:
(a) Briefly provides some background to the topic.
(b) States an argument in response to the question.
(c) Explains how the argument will be made.
(d) Justifies these decisions as far as possible.
3. It is fine (and indeed encouraged) to include critical thoughts and theories in your essay, as well as talk about law in its social-political context, but please remember that you are law students undertaking a company law module, and therefore relevant law from the module ought to be included as well.
