Question: Discuss the characteristics and causes of emotional and behavioral disorders. How might understanding the characteristics and/or causes of a student's disability help a teacher integrate them into the classroom? What are some of the models used for teaching these students and integrating them into the class? Please include other considerations such as the environment and use of technology. Be sure to discuss the benefits and limitations to the approaches mentioned.
All those patterns of responses that consistently impact a student's academic performance, relationships, and daily functioning negatively are classified as emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD). For instance, aggression is such a disorder; further defiance, anxiety, depression, impulsivity, and lack of emotional regulation and so forth constitute these disorders. There are several other causes of EBD. Genetic disposition, neurological challenges, childhood trauma, conflicts and disturbing experiences in the family are some common causes. Certain environmental stressors are also responsible for EBDs.
When educators understand these specific EBDs, they should reflect empathy for the child and should not punish the child (McGuire, S. N., & Meadan, 2022). Unmet emotional and behavioral needs of the individuals can be understood from their EBDs. These insights can be used to structure individualized care plans for the children. With such structured interventions, they can develop positive reinforcement, and enable the children to develop positive peer relationships. Also, the learning experience can be made more efficient and effective with this approach.Student success can be improved by facilitating a calm and peaceful
Students can be supported with a range of intervention strategies. Reinforcing positive behavioral practices with consistent expectations is one such approach. Further, they can be subjected to social-emotional learning programs, which are of use for supporting a student develop positive emotions, balancing of emotions as well interpersonal skills. Behavioral Intervention plans will identify the objectives of the challenging behaviors and apply customized intervention plans for supporting them with differentiated instructions for learning along with regular peers (Gleason et al., 2016). The use of interactive strategy can further support student engagement during classroom instruction.
Student success can be improved by facilitating a calm and peaceful environment, and with a positive student-educator relationship. Also, leveraging digital tools and resources like visual schedules and interactive tools for self-monitoring can enhance learning and contribute to behavioral improvement. A combination of a positive, supportive environment, evidence-based instructional approaches and appropriate technology tool usage will facilitate inclusion and academic achievement in children with EBDs. Students seeking additional academic support can explore Assignment Help. They can also learn more about Information Technology when discussing the use of technology in education.
