Observation Task 1 - Community MEETING - Work with the group to identify issues and to establish cooperative processes

You will be observed facilitating a meeting with stakeholders of the community group you have chosen 'community group' (simulated or 'live'). The purpose is to identify the group's priorities and issues, and to facilitate community empowerment and action.

As you facilitate the session, you will demonstrate your ability to:

  • Provide an overview of the selected community group (to summarise the research, the data that was collected and to analyse the group)
  • Engage key stakeholders in planning for strategies for community empowerment and action
  • Use appropriate interpersonal skills with individuals and groups to ensure that their story is heard and understood and to test that there is common understanding
  • Respond to individual and group concerns in a manner which shows respect and a commitment to assist in their resolution
  • Provide appropriate referrals to assist in the resolution of issues (where relevant to the individual and/or group issues raised
  • Identify individual and community strengths, talents and abilities that can address the community priority
  • Identify and address barriers to moving private concerns into public action
  • Work collaboratively to develop community development strategies to address their priorities
  • Identify three types of activities that could facilitate community participation (of the selected community group).
  • Facilitate agreement on ONE activity that will be implemented (as part of Observation No. 2)
  • Identify strengths and assets and access available resources to facilitate successful group and community work strategies and activities
  • Identify and establish mechanisms and actions to address group priorities and strengths
  • Establish common goals and coordinate strategies for community participation
  • Develop and maintain public processes
  • Participate in facilitation of effective group meetings
