Write a paper to describe the term structure of interest rates and then assess the theories associated with that term structure which explain the possible shapes. When was the last time the U.S. Treasury yield curve was inverted? Do inverted U.S. Treasury yield curves typically lead U.S. economic recessions? Provide an an actual example. Also, define measure and describe the investment value of duration. How does duration compare to convexity? Make sure to provide several illustrative examples for both the measurement as well as the investment value. Duration measures the price adjustment and it is also interpreted as the period of time where price risk and re-investment risk off-set one another when studying portfolios of fixed income securities. Both concepts should be discussed and illustrated.
