How might you go about determining the effectiveness of the Broad Band approach?

Broad band approach is based on wide salary bands. In order to determine the effectiveness of broad band approach, an organization needs to see how money is spend on the salary and how productive employees are. In addition, making sure that broad band streamlines organizational hierarchies and supports internal job promotions.

Would you want to be under a Broad Band approach (or perhaps you are already)? If yes, please explain why you would want to be or if no, why you would not want to be under such an approach?

I like the idea of broad band approach because it facilitates internal movement and focuses on the person instead of the job. The organization I work for utilizes broad band approach. New employees receive the minimum pay for one year and after one year they are eligible to move up. There is not given real promotion because employees do not received a title change but almost all the employees are satisfied with broad band approach. Many of you might disagree with me, however, as a young professional I find this approach very effective.
