A heat pump operating at steady state provides 36,000 kJ/hr to maintain the temperature in a building at 22C. The heat pump operates with a coefficient of performance 75% that of a reversible cycle operating between the same thermal reservoirs. For each of the possible low temperature reservoirs below, determine the power required to run the heat pump and the daily cost if electricity costs $0.09/kW-hr.

a) outside air at -10C

b) a pond or lake at 5C

c) the ground at 13C
