Problem Assignment - Strength Design for Reinforced Masonry Shear Walls

Problem 1: Determine the maximum lateral earthquake force, Heq, that can be applied at the top of the reinforced concrete masonry wall based on its flexural capacity per the 2016 TMS 402 strength design provisions.  As shown, vertical reinforcement consists of #4 bars equally spaced at 16" on center, and the wall is fully grouted. Prism strength is equal to 2000 psi.  Type S mortar is used with Portland Cement.  Reinforcement is Grade 60.  The vertical compressive force is given.

Problem 2: For the same wall, design shear reinforcement so that the full flexural strength can be developed.

Problem 3: Determine the ultimate curvature for the wall subject to the axial force as given in Problem 1.
