On average, twenty-five works per hour arrive at a workshop (the times between the arrivals of the works are exponential). An average of 1.5 minutes (exponentially distributed) is required in an initial station to determine the production line in which each job will continue, this station sends 40% to line one and the remaining 60% to line two. Line one is formed by three stations in series each of which has a single server that can process an average of 10 jobs per hour (the work times in each station are exponential). The works reach the station one and at the end of the process in this station go to station two; 15% of the jobs that leave station two must return to be processed in station one and 85% continue to station three; after being processed in the station three 10% of the work is reprocessed in season two and the remaining 90% ends its process. Line two is also composed of three consecutive stages whose processing times are on average: stage 1 six minutes (2 servers), stage 2 one minute and stage 3 two minutes. Due to quality problems, 12% of the products must be reprocessed from stage one and 15% must be reprocessed from stage two. Suppose that the service times are exponential and that in each stage there is only one server.

Questions:

1. Analyze the system as an open network.

2. Determine the behavior of an equivalent CONWIP system (closed network).

3. Compare by way of summary the behavior of the performance measures of the two cases.
