Two bolts are used to form a joint connecting rectangular bars in tension. The top and bottom pull to the left with 10 kips each, the middle part 20 kips to the right. The bolts have a diameter 3/8 inch, determine the average shear stress on the bolt surfaces that are subjected to direct shear.
