A two stage digester is to be designed with a volatile solids loading of 0.10 lb VS/ft3/day. The first stage is to digest the sludge and the second stage is to provide 30 days storage. FLow to the digester is 12000 gal/day at 5% solids with 70% volatile. The digested sludge has a solids concentration of 8% solids. Determine the sizes of the first and second stages of the digester.
