Problem Assignment - Strength Design of Out-of-Plane RM Walls

Using the strength design requirements of the 2016 TMS 402 code, design the wall shown below for wind and gravity loadings. Compare designs for a single-wythe, partially grouted:

(1) hollow clay block wall 

(2) hollow concrete block wall 

The wall is subjected to a wind load of 20psf which can act as either a suction or a direct pressure.  In addition, the wall must resist roof loadings equal to 200 lbs/ft dead load and 500 lbs/ft. live load that are applied via a steel ledger angle at an eccentricity of 3.0" from the face of the wall as shown in the sketch.  

Assume prism strength equal to 2000 psi for the concrete masonry wall and 4000 psi for the clay brick walls, and use Grade 60 reinforcement.
