You must build a bridge across a 20 foot wide gully. The bridge is 4 foot wide and will be constructed of 4x8 foot plywood sheets placed on top of two composite beams that are about 4 feet apart. Design the bridge so that the two composite beams take all the load, which is equivalent to 500 lbs/ft distributed over the length of each composite beam. The plywood lays on the composite beams, but is not attached (cheap bridge).
1. Concrete Bridge: Design a series of closely spaced parallel box beams that will support an asphalt road surface over a 10 foot wide, 40 foot long span. The hollow box beams are made of concrete and No 9 steel rods (1.125 inch dia). Maximum beam height is 30 inches. Minimum concrete thickness is 2 inches and in regions where steel rods are used, concrete cover over the steel rods must be at least 2 inches thick. The external bridge loading is 500 lbs per square foot. Assume the asphalt surface is 2 inches thick and weighs 30 lbs per square foot. Also assume that the asphalt surface is free to slide (not attached) over the box beams.
Devise a simple coding system to do a content analysis of print advertisements in popular magazines. Begin by examining the ads to choose the content dimensions you wish to use (e.g., gender). Apply the system to an issue of a magazine and describ..
The slabs are to be built integrally with the end supports, which are spandrel beams. fy = 60,000 psi, fc' = 4000psi normal-weight concrete. Clear spans are 15 feet, 18 feet and 15 feet. with the longitudal span of 38 feet.

A car moves around a curved path that has a radius of 375 feet. While moving around the arced path, the car increases speed by 1.15 ft/s^2. If the car starts from rest, determine the time needed to reach an acceleration of 5.5 ft/s^2.
If the resultant force of the two tugboats is 2.2kN , directed along the positive x axis, determine the required magnitude of force Fb. Determine the direction theta of force Fb
Why is the anchorage capacity of a standard hook not increased by extending the bar well beyond the end of the hook?
Water seeps vertically downward from the bottom of a lake through a uniform material to an aquifer below. The discharge is 0.005 ft^3/s through a 1 ft^2 area of the lake bottom.
