Which of the following solvents would be the best choice to extract a slightly-polar organic compound from an aqueous solution? Explain why each of other solvents is less desirable than the solvent you have chosen. Acetonitrile, dimethylformamide, hexane, methylene chloride are our solvent choices.

You are given a sample containing three organic compounds: a hydrocarbon, carboxylic acid, and an amine. All of these compounds are very soluble in ether and insoluble in water. Using a flow chart, show how you could separate the components of this mixture using extraction.
