ASSIGNMENT QUESTIONS:
Answer the following question:
1. How fear avoidance beliefs (FABQ), anxiety (HADS-a), depression (HADS-d) and catastrophizing (PCS) and pain (VAS) affect disability in individuals with CLBP in Pakistan?
VARIABLES:
1. COVARIATES: of individuals with CLBP.
a- Age groups
b- gender
c- educational levels
d- marital status
e- body mass index (kg/m2)
2. PAIN INTENSITY - CURRENT (VAS-c): Pain intensity 10-point scale.
3. PAIN INTENSITY - WORST PAIN LAST WEEK (VAS-w): Pain intensity 10-point scale.
4. FEAR AVOIDANCE - PHYSICAL (FABQ-pa): measure the effect of fear on physical activities of people who have low back pain.
5. FEAR AVOIDANCE - WORK (FABQ-w): measure the effect of fear on work of people who have low back pain.
6. DISABILITY (ODI): 10 questions to measure the disability due to low back pain.
7. PAIN CATASTROPHIZING (PCS): measures catastrophic feelings and thoughts when a person is experiencing.
8. ANXIETY (HADS-a): 7-items to measure ANXIETY. A higher total signify more anxiety.
9. DEPRESSION (HADS-d): 7-items to measure DEPRESSION. A higher total signify more depression.
ANALYSIS REQUIRED -
1. Analyze data using IBM SPSS. Assess data for normality using visual, and statistical methods. Use percentages and means with SD to summarize demographic variables. Use means with SD, and medians with IQRs to summarize disability (ODI) and psychological variables (FABQ-pa, FABQ-w, PCS, HADS-a and HADS-d).
2. Use univariate analyses with t-test, analysis of variance and correlation analyses to determine the association of demographic variables (age, gender, BMI, education, marital status and work status) with disability (ODI).
3. Use Pearson's correlation coefficients to investigate the relationship between current pain (VAS-c), last week pain (VAS-w), disability measure (ODI), Fear avoidance (FABQ), Catastrophizing (PCS), anxiety (HADS-a) and depression (HADS-d) variables, according to the normality of data.
4. Use multiple regression analyses while adjusting for covariates (age, gender, BMI, martial status, education and work status), to examine the relationship between current pain (VAS-c), last week pain (VAS-w), disability measure (ODI), Fear avoidance (FABQ), Catastrophizing (PCS), anxiety (HADS-a) and depression (HADS-d) variables and see how it is explained by each significant predictor.
ANSWER REQUIRED -
a. Describe the results by explaining the demographic data, baseline variables (ODI, FABQ, PCS, HADS and VAS) data.
b. Describe association between demographic variables with disability variable (ODI).
c. Briefly describe the correlation matrix table showing correlation between variables.
d. Describe the regression analysis and how these variables predict disability (ODI).
REQUIRED TABLES (see sample tables in attached file)
1. Demographics data table # 1
2. Correlations matrix (Using Pearson's correlation coefficients)
Correlations between variables disability (ODI), VAS-c (Current pain), VAS-w (Pain last week), depression (HADS-d), anxiety (HADS-a), fear avoidance-physical (FABQ-pa), fear avoidance-work (FABQ-w) and catastrophizing (PCS).
3. Correlations of demographic variables with disability variable (ODI)
Correlations between variables disability (ODI), Age, gender, education, marital status, and work status.
4. Correlations of demographic variables with disability variable (ODI)
Correlations between variables disability (ODI), Age, gender, education, marital status, and work status.
