Overview
This Preschool Video Summary Homework will allow you to either view four videos of preschool lessons, or if you work in an early childhood education setting, you may observe another preschool teacher. These observations will facilitate a better understanding of the instructional components of early childhood education.
Instructions
Chooseone of the two options below for the observation component of this Preschool Video Summary Homework:
1) Choose four video lessons taught to a preschool age group. The total viewing time of the four videos together should be at least one hour. Acceptable sources of videos include YouTube or other video sources.
2) If you are a preschool teacher, observe another preschool teacher in your place of work. Observe the instruction of four separate lessons, totaling about one hour.
Based on the lessons observed, complete all of the following items:
Write an essay that covers the following items for each lesson observed:
1) In the first paragraph, provide a clear and concise opening, describing the early childhood center.
2) In the next paragraph, describe the program, including the age group, number of students and teachers, as well as the classroom materials used. Include a description of the teacher, noting specifically teacher interaction and classroom management techniques.
3) In the next paragraph, describe the educational activities observed. Describe the classroom activities and lessons taught.
4) In the next paragraph, provide an overview of the NAEYC standards observed. Provide the standard numbers along with a description of the standard and how it was observed.
5) In the following paragraph, describe the multicultural awareness displayed in the classroom environment and activities.
6) Repeat a-e for each video lesson watched or for each lesson observed. The paragraphs for each lesson should total about one, double-spaced page.
7) In the concluding paragraph, provide concise closing statements accompanied by a reflection on the observations.
