Read the attached article entitled Clinical Practice Guideline (Update): Adult Sinusitis and answer the questions below. A few notes about the article. It was written for the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery Foundation and is a medical article. Normally I'd disallow this article if you used it as a reference but as this article details the process of developing practice guidelines, I've used it here. As a rule you should always look for articles authored by nurses. I'm breaking my own rule here because this article contains a lot of good information. I'm going to focus mainly on Acute Bacterial Rhino Sinusitis (ABRS) although the article gives information on diagnosis and treatment of acute viral rhino sinusitis, recurrent sinusitis and chronic sinusitis.
1. Why should a FNP be concerned about understanding the treatment guidelines for Acute Bacterial Sinusitis? What is the financial and personal consequences of the condition?
2. The authors call these multidisciplinary guidelines. Do you agree with them? Who would you add or subtract from the expert panel that developed the guidelines?
