Assignment: Fiscal Policy in the Real World

Now is the time to think like an economist! You will use your newfound knowledge of fiscal policy and economics to examine a current national fiscal policy issue or action. The decisions that Congress makes regarding fiscal policy can and will affect you on a practical level throughout life. Being aware of and considering these fiscal policy actions will help you make better, more rational choices.

Part I: Respond to the following questions regarding fiscal policy in complete sentences:

Question A. Define fiscal policy. Include the goals and tools of fiscal policy and the entity that controls it.

Question B. Should Congress create a law mandating a balanced federal budget? Support your position with evidence from the lesson.

Part II: Scan reputable news sites for recent articles relating to fiscal policy from within the last six months. For example, you might find that Congress is currently debating a new spending bill or just agreed to a tax cut. This list of search terms will help your search. Once you find and read the article, fill in the requested information and respond to the four questions that follow in complete sentences.
