We all have foods that we like to eat and foods that we dislike. Sometimes the reason for our preferences might be appearance or consistency (oysters come to mind here!) but often it is because of the flavors and aromas of the food. Please select one example each of a food you like and a food you dislike and describe the chemistry that might account for your preferences. You may be surprised to learn that there are certain chemicals present in foods that might be found other foods, so if you like or dislike one, you might feel that way about the others. Do not focus on texture or childhood memories/trauma. References will be required for this assignment and while McGee would be a good place to start, some independent research will be helpful.
