Organisation Change Management - LEARNING OUTCOMES :

On successful completion of this unit, students should be able to:

1. critically review the components and processes of organisation change and development especially their implications for managers in contemporary and emerging organisations;

2. investigate, diagnose, interpret and assess various change and development theories and models as techniques to achieve socially responsible and culturally-relevant solutions;

3. demonstrate, clearly articulate and facilitate a change management intervention with in a group which is grounded in theory and evidence and exhibits a high level of collective professionalism;

4. ascertain and develop change strategies for the individual, group, inter-group and organisation levels in situations of incremental or discontinuous change that demonstrate a balance between individual and public good;

5. determine and explore the significant managerial and leadership implications of managing change in organisations and persuasively advocate recommendations to specialist and non-specialist audiences; and

6. adapt skills in change management processes to meet emerging challenges posed by new situations and contexts, exhibiting a high level of personal accountability and autonomy,

Project Presentation

Instructions

- Your group will present a summary report of your chosen case study.

- In presenting your group case study, please follow the structure of your report.

- Critical to the success of your presentation will be: the story the group is telling and how well the story is told. So as a group, you will need to practice your presentation, making sure the key elements such as: introduction and background of the case is succinct and clear; why was/is the change introduced and by whom i.e. discuss the "need for change" who initiated the change and how change was/is communicated; who were the drivers,key stakeholders and champion of change; how did they develop the stakeholder matrix and who developed the change governance framework; how was change implemented; how was readiness to change conducted, was the change successful. As a team what would you have done differently and what would you recommend.

- Do not remain descriptive - you are expected to show analytical and conceptual skill, as well as strong integrative capacity.

Presentation Time

The group has exactly30 minutes to present your study to the whole class. Allow time at the end for reflection and evaluation.The group must organise and utilise the time well. Marks will be deducted if you go past your allocated time. The presentation must be made in a professional manner as though you are presenting your case findings to a Board of Directors. You must wear business attire.

Case Study - Project Report

Objective

1 To investigate, describe and analyse the application of change in an organization of which one member of the group has had direct experience of the change.

2 To critically interpret your case and analyse it by applying relevant theory and drawing on empirical evidence to justify your analysis and recommendationsfor how the change could be (have been) managed differently or improved. You serve as a team of consultants evaluating and advising on a specific change integrating all the learning throughout the unit (assessment, analysis, diagnosis, intervention, evaluation and recommendations).

Instructions
1 The group must select an organisation, which has undergone change and/or is implementing some form of change process and/or anticipating change

2 The change must have been experienced by a member of your group. This has to be a REAL and RECENT case of one of the membersand one where you can collect and analyse data to inform your recommendations.

3 The material must be presented in a way that conveys an understanding of theories, models and research evidence on organizational change, and which fully describes and analyses the specific case study organisation.

4 The group must submit a statement of one page describing which sections were completed by each person and an assessment of contribution by % for each person to the preparation and completion of the case study report - marks will be allocated according to this percentage

5 Your group will evaluate the group performance collectively and provide a summary of lessons learned.

Case Study Format Drafts Groups can discuss drafts for developmental feedback at a time agreed with you lecturer.
