Consider the following from your own informed and educated point of view:
- How important are laws to protect the prosperity of businesses?
- How important are laws to protect society from the (perhaps unintended) costs of business?
- What balance should laws seek to maintain the rights of businesses and the rights of their customers?
Critically consider these questions, looking not only at what you believe but why you hold these beliefs and opinions.
2) Paper. Should be 3 pages. APA format must be followed. In-text citations must be used from reliable sources. Paper has to be divided according to the following criteria's with the following subtopics:
- state legitimate arguments in favor of the position
- state legitimate counterarguments against the position
- persuade the reader to take the writer's position
- use acceptable sources (including laws, legal theories, academic articles, etc.) to support the arguments, particularly the writer's position. All sources are cited in APA format.
- will demonstrate a high quality of writing, including the use of clear and concise language
Agricultural-Biological-Technology is the future, and a company developing a new "gene" that would make food more nutritious would have a valuable asset if no other company could use their discovery. Make an argument as to why businesses that develop modified organisms should be able to preserve their property rights by patenting such organisms.
Your argument might include the purpose of a patent being designed to protect the payoffs from investments in this sort of research and development. Then, make a counterargument as to why such organisms should not be allowed a patent. While you should present both sides, you should clearly choose a position for or against and attempt to persuade the reader to adopt your position.
3) Discussion: APA citations must be used (1 page) - in text citations.
- If you found a one-of-a-kind prototype of a revolutionary new mobile phone lying on a public bench, what would you do with it? What would be the consequences of your chosen action?
- Does the value of a parcel of land come only from the profits it can generate? If not, what makes land valuable? Does it ever have any value that is not recognized by the law?
- What is the role of governments in regulating the use of any form of property? Why do laws work so well maintain standard uses, and what would be alternative ways to set boundaries on what businesses could do?
4) Discussion: APA citations must be used (1-2 pages) in text citations.
- Discuss the resource-based view of competitive advantage. What are the characteristics of resources that may yield sustainable competitive advantage? Describe the role that Information systems can play in creating sustainable competitive advantage.
- Briefly comment on Carr's 'It Doesn't Matter' argument, offer your thoughts.

Case Questions
Analyze Amazon using the competitive forces and value chain models. How has it responded to pressures from its competitive environment? How does it provide value to its customers?
Describe Amazon's evolving business strategy. Why did the company change its strategy?
