A critical issue in research is the researcher's ethical responsibility towards the "subjects" under investigation.

As has already been said, research can be defined as the methodical investigation of sources and subjects by collecting data, establishing facts and drawing inferences. This process has a critical connection to ethical principles as the researcher needs to ensure that potential risks of harm are eliminated. In social science the necessity of ethical principles increases as the researcher is dealing with human subjects.
