As healthcare administrators, we have a responsibility in defining and measuring quality within an organizational setting. Most organizations describe a commitment to quality care within their mission statements and strategic plans. The result is the implementation of a comprehensive set of processes and systems to ensure quality.
The study of quality of care encompasses at least three foci: quality assessment, quality improvement, and quality assurance. Please explain these terms and how they relate to healthcare?

There are several government organizations that play a role in preventing medical errors, malpractice and focus on patient care. For example, the mission of the CDC, which is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, is to promote health and quality of life by preventing and controlling disease, injury, and disability; and FDA responsibilities include monitoring the safety of food (i.e., meat, butter, canned food, and seafood); the safety of cosmetic products; the safety and efficacy of drugs, both prescription and over the
counter; and the safety and efficacy of medical devices, such as pacemakers.
