Like seashells on a beach, people come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. All of us need to be aware of the different layers of diversity and to know the difference between affirmative action and diversity management.

Chapter 4 - Acquired Needs Theory: Achievement, Affiliation, and Power

David McClelland, a well-known psychologist, began studying the relationship between needs and behavior in the late 1940s. He proposed the acquired needs theory, which states that three needs-for achievement affiliation and power-are the key drivers of employee behavior. McClellan used the term "acquired needs" because he believes we are not born with our needs; rather we learn our acquire them as we go about living our lives.
