According to the text, Newstrom defines the three stages of change, unfreezing, changing, and refreezing (Newstrom, 2015). The stages of change remind me of what an organization encounters when there are new management/owners. The unfreezing stage is reminiscent of when my previous department, embraced the new management style of the new manager. The transition was smooth; however, there were distinct differences between the prior manager and newly installed manager. New management expressed their expectations and outlined what their vision was for the future. This was different, new management was now going to hold their associates accountable. To jumpstart the process, focus groups were implemented. The focus groups were associate-driven to enhance morale. This led to a new sense of confidence across the department. This allowed associates to candidly express themselves which led to associates trusting upper management. The result led to an open door-policy. If each step has not fully reached its potential, then change will not be executed.
