After complications during surgery in 2013, a death certificate was issued by the hospital for 13-year-old Jahi McMath. Her family, however, disagreed with the medical diagnosis of brain death and kept her on life support for years. After issuance of the certificate, was Jahi "dead" for purposes of the criminal law?
