The next generation "ultra supercritical" power plants may operate with steam pressures of up to 300 bar. However, material strength limitations prevent operation of high pressure equipment at temperatures above 600 C. Assume that the condenser for these power plants still operates at atmospheric pressure, P3=P4=1.01 bar.
a) is it possible to operate with boiler pressure P1=P2=300 bar without exceeding the maximum allowed temperature of 600 C?
b) a proposed process modification to allow high pressure operation is to use 300 bar steam to run a turbine that has as outlet saturated steam at a low pressure of 40 bar. This stream is then reheated in the boiler and used to run another turbine before returning to the condenser. Draw schematic equipment and TS diagrams for this process and compute the temperatures, work amounts, and efficiency for this reheating cycle.
What amount of energy is required to completely ionize 29.9 grams of carbon atoms in the gas phase (C(g)) if the ionization energy of C(g) is 1086 kJ/mole.
Consider the reaction: C2H5OH (l) + 3O2 (g) --> 2 CO2 (g) + 3 H2O (l) , ?H= -1.37 x 103 kJ When a 24.8-g sample of ethyl alcohol (molar mass = 46.07 g/mol) is burned, how much energy is released as heat?

Some velomobile seats have been designed to hold ice packs inside their cushions. If you started a ride with ice packs that held 1700 g of frozen water at 0 degrees C , and the temperature of the water at the end of the ride was 32 degrees C.
How much ice was added? The heat of fusion of water is 6.01 kJ/mol and the specific heat is 4.18J(g*C). can someone explain this in detail. other descriptions don't answer this well and im lost when i try and do it
