The root-mean-square (rms) speed of a sample of molecules was found to be 1.8*10^3 m/s at 25.0 degrees C. After heating, the rms speed was found to be 4.6*10^3 m/s. What was the temperature of the sample after heating? Please show work I've asked this question before and I'm getting mixed answers. I know that the rms is DIRECTLY proportional to the temperature but I'm not sure if I'm suppose to convert to K before taking the square root or even converting at all. I'm so confused. Someone please work this problem and explain along the way. Will rate lifesaver if explained well.
