There is growing recognition that traditional management practices have led to undesirable social and environmental impacts, some of which in turn have threatened the economic viability of the hospitality and tourism industry. The prosperity of the hospitality and tourism industry depends more and more upon the natural environment (World Tourism Organization 1996).Therefore industry managers now face the challenges of creating a balance between economic growth and the preservation (or enhancement) of environmentally sustainable processes. Write a research Essay including the following: - Explain the philosophy of environmentally sustainable management in the hospitality and tourism industries. - Critically analyse the concept of sustainable development principles. - Discuss any criticisms of sustainable development. - In your opinion, are these concepts applicable to the tourism and hospitality industry?
