As stated in the Laudon text, the goal of enterprise systems is to achieve operational excellence and customer intimacy. They are defined as systems which feature a set of integrated software modules and a central database that enables data to be shared by many different business processes and functional areas throughout an organization. Two common examples of enterprise systems are: Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Supply Chain Management (SCM). By doing a search of the web or other research methods, find an example of an organization that attempted to install an enterprise system. 1) What set of business issues was the organization trying to address? 2) How did they determine the business value of this project? Did it prove to be a prudent financial decision? 3) What product did they eventually decide to implement? 4) What major challenges did they face during the implementation and throughout the entire process? 5) What degree of success was achieved with this initiative? Did they achieve the stated objectives or did they come up short? 6) What was the impact on the business in terms of customer satisfaction and process improvement? 7) If you were in charge of this project, what recommendations or actions would you have taken to improve the outcome?
