Question

My current organization is an elementary school that serves scholars from 3k to fifth grade. One issue that I have noticed is colleagues feeling as if they are not appreciated. Many staff members feel they work extremely hard and go above and beyond their work description, yet need to be recognized for their accomplishments and efforts. If staff feel unappreciated, I come in with this prior knowledge of how colleagues and staff feel. It's my chance to teach the ways of Systemic Thinking and Practice. "Systems Thinking refers to seeing an organization as a whole, made up of interrelated and interdependent parts. The human body is a good example of a system whereby bones, muscles, tissues, and organs perform interdependent and interrelated functions" (Coghlan, D. 2019). I will create a professional learning series surrounding Systemic Thinking and Practice by creating job titles on one side of an index card, and on the back, it will state why this job is so important. With every job title in my school community, from custodial staff to Principal, a scenario will be placed on the card indicating what would happen if this position was not held. Once all positions have been acknowledged for their pivotal role and importance to the school community, there will be a movement activity game where we all have to use one of each other's body parts to succeed in a mission.
