When implementing changes in any organization, there are key implications to consider when creating and presenting the budget. The key goal of creating a tighter budget for an organization is to enhance financial efficiency and resource allocation by identifying and minimizing waste, optimizing processes, and ensuring that every dollar spent contributes to achieving strategic objectives. Kate's role and intention is to set the organization up to fulfill this goal. However, this change can also set a path of negative behaviors for managers and line workers. Setting unrealistic budget expectations can leave employees feeling discouraged, which may lead to lower morale, decreased productivity, and even compromises in quality. When employees aren't involved in revising standards-like during the presentation where there was little opportunity for discussion-they may feel excluded and less motivated to support the changes. Pushing aggressive cost controls too far can also pressure teams to cut corners, risking the quality of their work. A more collaborative approach, such as testing the new standards in a few departments or asking for employee input early on, could uncover potential challenges and help fine-tune the process.
